CEFR level to be added for reference to JLPT score reports from the December 2025 JLPT
What’s the update?
From the December 2025 JLPT, score reports add a CEFR reference; it does not certify every language skill.
Source notes checked 19 Sep 2026. The date above is the original notice date.
What the source says
The JLPT announcement says the CEFR reference is linked to the total score and is shown for passing candidates from the December 2025 test. It does not change the test content, and earlier result documents remain valid.
Why this matters
The key interpretation is scope. JLPT tests language knowledge, reading and listening; the reference should not be presented as a separate assessment of speaking or writing. A CV that states only “CEFR level” without the test and date may hide that distinction.
Useful next steps
Read your actual score report and the official correspondence explanation together. When reporting a result, include the JLPT level, test session and the reference exactly as issued. Continue practising spoken interaction and writing separately if those are required for your course or workplace.
